The Frame Australia 2016 Conference and Exhibition being held in Melbourne in May will dwell on new opportunities for the construction sector arising out of changes in the National Construction Code (NCC).

The 2016 National Construction Code includes provisions for the use of both lightweight and mass timber construction up to an effective building height of 25m (8 storeys), effective from May this year.

Themed ‘Building construction with prefabricated timber and engineered wood’, Frame Australia 2016 will feature a series of presentations covering the NCC code changes and new building opportunities, with topics for delegates from both sectors of prefabricated timber and engineered wood, and building design and construction held in parallel sessions.

According to Conference Director Kevin Ezard, commercial property developers are seeking more efficient methods to meet the challenges of construction time and cost, with new solutions now emerging from the utilisation of timber building systems. He observed that timber and engineered wood construction offered a viable alternative to current systems by providing much faster construction, substantial safety improvements, less complexity on building sites, and lower overall construction costs.

Frame Australia 2016 will feature expert international speakers on new technologies in automated manufacture of timber frames and panellised floor and roof systems common in Europe and North America, and rapidly gaining popularity in Australia.

WoodSolutions will continue their role as exclusive ‘Principal Supporter’ for the one-day conference, to assist in expanding awareness of new timber building systems emerging in Australia among designers and specifiers.

Exhibition booths are still available for suppliers interested in showcasing their products and interacting with delegates from building design and construction, engineered wood and prefab timber systems.

The national Frame Australia 2016 Conference and Exhibition is being held on Monday 23 May at Park Hyatt Melbourne.
