South Australia's Mount Barker to get its first new pub in 170 years
Heysen Hotel is being developed as an attractive destination in the Adelaide Hills for both the local community and tourists, with the pub to include a bistro, sports bar, gaming lounge, function rooms, expansive outdoor spaces and a drive-through bottle shop.
Construction work on Heysen Hotel is set to commence in July this year after the $30-million pub development in the Adelaide Hills received approval for liquor and gaming licences.
Located near the corner of Wellington Road and Heysen Boulevard in Mount Barker South, Heysen Hotel has been planned as a three-storey pub designed to accommodate more than 1,000 patrons as well as a bistro, sports bar, gaming lounge, function rooms and expansive outdoor spaces. A drive-through bottle shop and undercroft parking are also part of the plans. The project is backed by Brett Matthews, executive chairman of family-owned hotel operator Piermount.
Heysen Hotel will be the first new pub to be developed in Mount Barker in 170 years, with the last pub – one of the town’s only two pubs – built in 1855. The development is also the first to get a gaming licence in more than 22 years.
The venue is being developed as an attractive destination in the Adelaide Hills for both the local community and tourists. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the pub is expected to provide about 150 jobs, generating significant employment opportunities for locals.
