Plans for a landmark public park in Bradfield City have taken a significant step forward following the appointment of FDC Construction & Fitout as Head Contractor for Central Park, a major two-hectare green space that will anchor Australia’s first new city in a century.

Designed for community and recreation, Bradfield City’s Central Park, designed by landscape architecture firm ASPECT Studios, is set directly above the upcoming Bradfield Metro Station, and will serve as both a gateway for visitors and a central green space for residents, workers and businesses in the emerging Western Sydney precinct.

FDC will oversee construction of several signature features intended to define the park’s identity. Among these are the Sky Ring, a visually striking architectural element designed to provide shelter and rainwater management; the Woven Play and Interwoven Heart play zones to encourage community engagement; and the Gathering Green, a multi-use space capable of accommodating as many as 5,000 people during events.

Beyond these headline attractions, the project includes a comprehensive range of public amenities such as landscaped decks, pedestrian pathways, lighting systems and tree-lined boulevards. Extensive planting is also planned, with more than 550 mature trees and over 55,000 native shrubs, grasses and groundcovers representing 84+ different shrub species, reflecting the project’s emphasis on biodiversity and climate resilience.

Public art will form an integral component of the park’s design. Dharug artists are collaborating on artworks to be incorporated throughout the landscape, ensuring local cultural narratives and Indigenous perspectives are embedded in the space from the outset.

“Central Park will become the heart of Bradfield City, a place for families, workers and visitors to meet, play and enjoy the outdoors,” says Bradfield Development Authority CEO Ken Morrison. “Appointing FDC as Head Contractor brings us another step closer to creating a world‑class public space that reflects the identity, aspirations and energy of this new city.”

Construction is scheduled to commence later this year with Central Park expected to open alongside the Bradfield Metro Station.
