Entries for the 15th annual Australian Timber Design Awards will open on 10 February and close on 27 June 2014.

Submissions are open to architects, builders, designers, engineers and students, and must be based on projects that make significant use of timber. Suitable projects are new buildings, renovations, interior fitouts and outdoor timber structures such as bridges or foreshore developments.

All projects must be built in Australia.

The entries may be considered for five Application Awards, as well as various Recognition Awards (previously ‘Best Use Of’ Awards), such as the Timber Cladding Award, Treated Pine Award and Timber Windows and Doors Award.

Additional awards include the Sustainability Award, the Rising Star Award (open to students and entrants aged 35 or under), the Small Budget Projects Award, and the People’s Choice Award.

Last year saw a record-breaking number of entries, with Lend Lease taking home the program’s highest honour with Melbourne’s Forte, the tallest modern timber apartment building in the world.

The judging panel, which looks for innovative and context-suitable timber use, was particularly impressed by the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) in the building frame.

The Australian Timber Design Awards are a national competition to promote and encourage outstanding timber design in the built environment professions. Winners will be announced in Sydney at the Awards Presentation Night in mid-September. Entries cost $295, which entitles participants to one ticket to the Awards Ceremony.

Essential Exterior Timber Design Seminar

This free seminar will explore how timber may be used in exterior applications. Presentations feature winning projects in last year's Australian Timber Design Awards. The speakers are experts on timber cladding, exterior finishes, timber windows and timber preservation for external applications.
