Dulux has revealed its Colour Forecast for 2027, identifying three vibrant colour palettes that reflect a growing desire for authenticity, connection and individuality in the home.

The annual forecast – developed through research into local and global design trends – brings together the Play, Treasure and Sensory palettes. Together, they explore how colour can support creativity, self-expression and restorative everyday environments, shaping Australian interior design amid rising living costs and accelerating artificial intelligence.

The forecast has been developed and curated by the Dulux Colour Team, led by Colour and Design Manager Lauren Treloar and Colour Marketing Lead Lilybet Holt. The annual Dulux Colour Forecast, which began in 1999, draws insights from international design events, industry research and Dulux’s global network.

“To distil the ever-evolving trend landscape, the Dulux Colour Team collaborates closely with international brands, attends design shows and seminars, runway presentations, and global events including Milan Design Week,” says Treloar. “We also draw from customised trend research and insights accessed through Dulux’s global network across the UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific. As members of the Color Marketing Group (CMG), we analyse key reports from CMG as well as forecasting firms such as Color Hive and LS:N Global to enrich our forecasting to reflect what’s ahead.”

According to Holt, the forecast responds to the tension between technological advancement and a growing need for human connection.

“As we become increasingly technologically sophisticated, many of us are also feeling more socially disconnected. In a world shaped by algorithms, endless content and digital noise, there is a growing sense of sameness and overstimulation. The palettes reflect an urgent desire to create spaces that feel more personal, expressive and deeply human,” she notes.

Australians are gravitating towards colours that foster balance and a sense of belonging, creating interiors that are both soothing and uplifting while strengthening connections to nature, reflection and everyday joy.

Across the three collections, softened yellow-greens and blues provide a grounding foundation, while brighter berry and cherry tones introduce personality and optimism.

“Our palettes are designed for cohesion and personalisation, offering users the flexibility to integrate shades seamlessly into their unique spaces, ensuring that the essence of each palette is preserved while celebrating individual style,” Treloar adds.

Dulux Play

The Dulux Play palette takes a more energetic approach, combining soft pastels with brighter accents and playful design elements. Lilac, muted blue, spearmint green, orange and berry shades form the basis of a collection influenced by analogue experiences, modular design and creative imperfection.

“Dulux Play reintroduces artistry into our spaces,” states Treloar. “This palette revels in the freedom of modular designs and the tactile beauty of asymmetry, encouraging creativity and movement, ideal for celebrating life’s glorious unpredictability. Packed with soft pastels, Dulux Play is a colourful collection of muted lilacs such as Dulux Stately Frills, calming blues like Dulux Powder Blue Half, spearmint greens including Dulux Catnap, and zesty orange and berry accents like Dulux Temptress and Dulux Baca Berry.”

Dulux Treasure

At the opposite end of the spectrum, the opulent Dulux Treasure draws on deeper, more luxurious tones. The palette moves beyond pared-back minimalism, using rich colours, expressive materials and heritage references to create elegant interiors layered with classical influences.

“Dulux Treasure invites us to layer our homes with stories and materials that echo our identities,” notes Holt. “This palette enlivens spaces with deep blues like Dulux Precision and Dulux Madonna, lush crimsons such as Dulux Raspberry Fool, and berry shades like Dulux Rich Red Violet.”

“Imagined with expressive marbles and high-gloss finishes, this palette celebrates the beauty of collected histories, featuring mixed metals and rich wood textures that tell countless stories.”

Dulux Sensory

The Dulux Sensory palette takes a quieter direction, centred on mindful living and the restorative qualities of nature and craftsmanship. Warm neutrals, layered greens and deep brown-black tones are paired with tactile materials, Japanese-inspired details, natural finishes and organic forms to create a sanctuary-like environment.

“Dulux Sensory embodies the calming qualities of considered design,” notes Treloar. “It encompasses natural tones with layered greens such as Dulux Field Maple and Dulux Moorland, warm neutrals like Dulux Buttercookie and Dulux Humble Fawn, and near-black browns including Dulux Dark Cocoa and Dulux Sweet Chocolate, adding depth and serenity to a space.”

“Delicate materials like refined weaves, honed stone and smoked glass cultivate a nurturing and immersive environment, merging tradition with modern tranquillity.”

Integrating the 2027 palettes into interior design

Dulux recommends testing colours in the home with A4 samples and Sample Pots available through its website. Its online colour advice team and Colour Design service can also provide professional assistance with colour selection.
