At the 2018 Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards, the World Green Building Council announced Barangaroo South as the co-winner of the Leadership in Sustainability Design and Performance in the commercial category, alongside Aorangi House in New Zealand.

Sustainability was fundamental to Barangaroo South’s design – from raising the ground plane to accommodate predicted sea level rises through to installing over 50,000 LED lamps and 6,000sqm of rooftop solar panels. A shared basement with a recycled water treatment plant and district cooling plant to cool the buildings are further sustainability measures. Barangaroo South is also home to International House Sydney, Australia’s first engineered timber commercial building.

The Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards recognised Lendlease's ambition to create a precinct that:

Becomes Australia's first large-scale carbon neutral precinct
Becomes water positive
Diverts 97 percent of construction and 80 percent of operational waste from landfill

“Urbanisation and density are on the rise, with the vast majority of all global population growth expected to occur in our cities," says Kylie Rampa, Lendlease CEO, Property.
