The Inaugural Australian Dementia Design School will be a specialist training initiative for architects/designers, commissioners, decision-makers, dementia specialists, planners and project managers.

It will feature keynote presentations, workshops, site visits and practical sessions.

The Dementia Centre aims to bring together the latest insights and trends from around the world, in Sydney from 14-16th September 2011.

Organisers say new research and initiatives in recent years have indicated that the quality of design in purpose built dementia care facilities is a key foundation in the provisions of better dementia care.

Director of the Dementia Centre, Colm Cunningham, said: “Knowing and applying the latest evidence-based research will not only improve the quality of life for people with dementia, but can also save time and money in the long-term.

“Aged care providers need to ensure that the people charged with design and delivering have the credentials to deliver built environments that will work for people with dementia.”
