Treetops in a number of Sydney’s iconic landmarks will take a different form as part of an outdoor treehouse exhibition by the world’s top architects, designers and artists.

The TreeLife exhibition will showcase the latest in eco-design and construction as part of a free one-month exhibition in park and satellite locations throughout Sydney in early 2010.

Exhibition director, Laura Demasi, told Architecture & Design the showcase will demonstrate sustainable and eco-friendly designs and demonstrate how they may be integrated to an urban environment.

“Anything to do with ‘green’ and ‘sustainability’ is often seen to be boring and dull,” she said. “TreeLife will show how sustainable designs can be beautiful and co-exist in a built-up environment.”

The treehouses will be crafted from sustainable or recycled materials and promote eco-friendly architecture by using key locations to reach a broad audience.

“Treehouses appeal to a wide audience… The exhibit will highlight sustainable designs to families and tourists, as well as leading architects and designers to combine the two worlds,” she said.

According to Demasi, the importance of sustainability and eco-friendly design is becoming “increasingly important” to cut costs and consider the environment.

The constructions will be created by Australian artists and rising talent from across the globe to ‘promote green as innovative and the only way forward for the future’.

Details of the event are yet to be finalised, and will be released in the coming months.
