Glascott Landscape & Civil announces the appointment of Alana Morris as the new National WHS & QA Manager.

Managing Director, Matthew Glascott explains that they have appointed Alana Morris as their National WHS & QA Manager because they prioritise workplace safety within the business.

Glascott prides itself on providing a safe work environment that is not just compliant but also best practice in safety. In her new role, Alana will be responsible for maintaining the organisation’s first-rate safety record.

Alana started early in the construction industry at the age of 17 years, working her way through various site support roles before being given the opportunity to step into a management role that had a strong focus on safety. This role made her truly appreciate the safety risks on job sites and their impact on people.

Alana subsequently moved into a defined WHS Management role in Sydney, before going back to her hometown of Canberra to take up the opportunity at Glascott Landscape & Civil. Alana is responsible for the constant review of the Glascott safety systems, which involves designing, implementing and managing new initiatives.

Being passionate about the subject, Alana educates others so they can perform best practices themselves. Alana has performed a complete review of Glascott’s WHS and QA Management Systems and practices, and is also implementing new systems including site forms, risk assessment practices, subcontractor compliance, hazard identification, incident and injury reporting and investigations, consultations, training and education and SWMS development among many more.

Alana is focussed on changing behaviours and attitudes towards safety through education, communication and consultation.

Glascott is recognised on many National Registers, has achieved 96% compliance rate with a safety focussed Tier One builder, and has had its new systems reviewed and accepted by numerous councils nationally. Glascott holds WHS, QA and Environmental ISO certifications, and is looking to achieve FSC Accreditation within the next 12 months.

Glascott will be implementing a number of initiatives in the coming months. Federal Safety Commission Accreditation (FSCA) will become a strong focus throughout 2015 for a 2016 accreditation. Alana has also written two training programs, ‘Caring For Your Mates Through Communication, Education and Consultation’ and ‘If you could save a life today, would you?’, which will be facilitated across Glascott Landscape & Civil nationally. Another initiative is the Safety ‘Star of the Month’ honour to acknowledge those who step up for themselves and others, to create a safer, happier and healthier workplace.

In the last few months Alana has completed site-specific submissions for a number of projects including the City of Sydney Council and Liverpool Council in NSW, as well as the Shimano Warehouse; the Glass Factory, Mt Maria, ANZAC Square and Transcity Legacy Way in QLD; and Springbank Rise SP2 and Googong Stage 3 in ACT.

Alana adds that Glascott’s WHS Management Systems are constantly being reviewed to implement best practices with a focus on integrity and practicality to ensure all employees, contractors and stakeholders go home safe, every day.
