Adelaide Oval looks set to undergo a $535 million redevelopment into a multi-purpose stadium, the plans expected to see the revitalisation of the city's riverbank precinct.

Cox Architecture has been appointed by the Government of South Australia as architectural lead, with Walter Brooke and Hames Sharley forming the architectural team.

Members of the South Australia Cricket Association(SACA) have now endorsed the plan, and hope it will be finished in time for England's next Ashes tour.

The construction may see the picturesque ground boosted from its current seating capacity of around 32,000 to 50,000.

Work will include the construction of a new southern stand, and will retain the heritage scoreboard, grassed northern mound, views of the St. Peters Cathedral and the famous Moreton Bay fig trees nearby.

The Property Council congratulates the South Australian Cricket Association Members for their foresight and community spirit in voting to support the redevelopment.

"This emphatic vote is the critical trigger for the Riverbank Precinct revitalisation which will transform the beautiful but underutilised reference to Adelaide's sleepy-town past into a magnificent place for all South Australians.” said Property Council of Australia (SA Division) executive director Nathan Paine today.

On their website, SACA president Ian McLachlan said: "Adelaide will have the most modern sporting venue in the country with world-class facilities in the best location in any capital city.”

"It will enable Adelaide to compete more effectively with other interstate and international venues to attract major events, whether sporting or cultural such as concerts."
