Supawood aluminium beams have achieved durable slatted timber look features on the exterior façade of the new community health centre at Mona Vale Hospital NSW.
The proximity of this building so close to the sea required the designers, MSJ, to choose exterior finishes that would be low maintenance and durable enough to withstand a challenging environment. They wanted a refined blend of easy-to-apply materials which would reflect the nature of this state-of-the-art facility in finishes which tied it in with the coastal setting.
ALUCLICK aluminium beams offered the ideal opportunity to apply the look of timber on the exterior while overcoming all other concerns.
Mona Vale Community Health Centre is less than 500 metres from a cliff overlooking the sea which leaves the site very exposed to corrosive damp salty air and wind. To achieve the look of timber slatted cladding on the exterior façade in this environment meant that the use of solid timber was totally out of the question. Solid timber is also difficult and very heavy to work with.
By using ALUCLICK in a SUPAMETAL exterior Silky Oak finish, the designers were able to achieve convincing slatted timber look features that will not corrode or warp over time, will always retain a new look and remain virtually maintenance free. ALUCLICK is also totally fire resistant, very light and easy to install, and in an external finish supplied with a 12-year warranty.
This multi-million dollar health centre represents an important asset in the future of health services on the northern beaches of Sydney; therefore longevity was essential for the way in which it was constructed. The mix of contemporary materials on this building is sophisticated and reflects its purpose while complementing the surroundings.
