Designer Francesca Amato from Jag Kitchens chose a black-and-white colour theme for a showpiece kitchen at the Thornhill residence in Keswick, Adelaide.

Engaged by the owners to create a dramatic kitchen that would not only take centre stage in the home but also provide ample concealed storage, Amato chose the stunning moody colour palette, balancing the dark tones with white design elements.

The long bank of L-shaped matte black cabinetry at the rear of the kitchen is offset by the white floor tiles and white marble island benchtop, all playing an integral role to stabilise the space visually. Anchored with dual waterfall ends, the large island bench, located centrally to the cabinets, provides the ideal frontage to the kitchen, with a black-and-white stone vertical feature tying the front and rear of the room together.

A Zip HydroTap Celsius All-In-One Arc in matte black was chosen to tone in with the matte black cabinetry. Additionally, the smooth curves of the spout contrast elegantly with the linear elements in the kitchen while the HydroTap’s beautiful matte black finish stands out against the white countertop.

Black appliances and a black sink reinforce the dark elements in the black-and-white themed kitchen. It’s a timeless colour scheme that is in tune with the design of the home and its modern ambiance.

The storage requirement is met through the ceiling-high cabinetry with the handleless matte black finish allowing a clean, sophisticated line at the rear of the kitchen and providing a smooth backdrop for the feature island. Cleverly, the full-height cabinetry also includes a concealed doorway through to the garage, which is completely invisible.

Fitted out internally with Blum organisational elements, the modern kitchen boasts an incredible amount of storage within both drawers and cupboards, as well as above and below the benchtop.

Two large windows provide the kitchen with plenty of natural light, adding to the dramatic feel of the space while the ghost chairs chosen for the island give the room an ethereal feeling.

A beautiful bar area in matching black cabinetry sits opposite the main kitchen, and features a black-with-white-grain stone top to blend in with the island front. The bar is designed with plenty of space for hosts and visitors to mix drinks. The clients love the space so much they have commissioned Jag Kitchens to start work on a new design for their wine room to match the new kitchen.

The Zip HydroTap Celsius All-In- One offers the residents instant access to filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water for drinking and unfiltered hot and cold water for cooking. The system was seen as an essential investment for the household to simplify everyday chores.
