Wallboard Tools recently introduced PVC mud set beads in Australia.

Installed using base compound only, the mud set range uses mud lock technology and a specially engineered hole pattern to create a superior bond between PVC and plasterboard. Mud locks cover the entire mud leg of the bead greatly increasing the bonding area.

Mud set beads can be quickly installed using automatic tools, a hopper or even manually without staples or spray adhesives.

Micro perforations allow an optimum amount of compound to pass through, enabling the bead to self-level on the corner. Once installed, the PVC mud set beads bond well to the wall. The I Beam nib allows the beads to absorb extreme impacts and resist cracking while still producing a sharp corner.

Installation options for PVC mud set beads:

Automatic Tools Method

  • Mix the joint compound to a smooth, creamy consistency and fill in the compound applicator tube, which is then attached to the outside angle head
  • Starting at the top of the external corner, run the tool down coating it with compound
  • Apply the mud set corner bead to the wall
  • Use the roller or a taping knife to press the bead firmly onto the wall allowing the compound to penetrate the micro perforations
  • The PVC mud set beads will self-level on the corner
  • Feather the corner and apply first coat of compound to the mud set corner bead
Hopper Method
  • Fill the hopper with base compound and run the length of the mud set bead through to coat the underside of the bead
  • Apply the mud set corner bead to the wall
  • Use the roller or taping knife to press the bead firmly onto the wall allowing the compound to penetrate the micro perforations
  • Mud set beads will self-level on the corner
  • Feather the corner and apply first coat of compound to the mud set corner bead
Hand Method
  • Apply a layer of base compound onto the corner using a trowel or taping knife
  • Apply the mud set corner bead to the wall
  • Use the roller or a taping knife to press the bead firmly onto the wall allowing the compound to penetrate the micro perforations
  • Mud set corner beads will self-level on the corner
  • Feather the corner and apply first coat of compound to the mud set corner bead
