Thoughtful touches to this newly renovated home in Sandringham has created a modern space with a timeless interior palette and an abundance of natural light throughout. Renowned for creating designs with interesting details, and beautiful finishes and textures, Austin Design Associates has more than delivered.

The modern space is cleverly crafted within the home’s original footprint, incorporating an existing curved back façade – a task that presented a few interesting challenges for the team. Clever space planning and skilful navigation of existing elements within the curved structure by both Austin Design Associates and Cormack Constructions delivered a gorgeous, functional and streamlined home.

“We were blessed with a beautiful curved wall of windows at the back of the house that let in a stunning amount of light into the living room,” notes Sylvanna Mitri, director/interior designer, Austin Design Associates.

The material palette is light and bright to complement the light-filled rooms and create a strong connection between the interior and exterior spaces. Think crisp white walls, Tasmanian Oak flooring, textured Ash Grey brick tiles, black steel accents and a surprise pop of colour in the bathroom.

Ash Grey brick tiles are used extensively throughout the renovation as a robust, low maintenance and aesthetic solution, and create a strong connection between inside and out. They are featured on the chimney breast and hearth in the formal sitting room, on the living room floor under the freestanding fireplace, and flow seamlessly out into the alfresco before wrapping up behind the BBQ as a splashback.

“The Ash Grey tiles add a stunning texture and warmth to the whole space. And the way the floor in the living room seamlessly transitions from timber to brick tiles, to the back alfresco adds the most beautiful connection to the exterior,” says Mitri.

Perhaps not despite the challenge of the existing architectural elements of the home, but because of them, Austin Design Associates has delivered a truly delightful, well-considered space for the lucky young family who lives there.

“They are so pleasantly surprised with the functionality of the renovation, and have put the new ‘zones’ to great use,” remarks Mitri.

We have no doubt that this low maintenance, highly functional and stunning home will be enjoyed for many years to come.
