A sewage treatment plant from Ozzi Kleen is helping Joan Dalton maintain a beautiful garden using recycled wastewater from her household.

Joan Dalton and her partner David Anderson live in a beautifully restored late 19th century timber cottage in the heritage-listed town of Maldon in the historic goldfields region of central Victoria.

Joan desired to maintain a traditional cottage garden that would be compatible with the design and appearance of the cottage.

The challenge was to maintain the garden with a regular water supply during prolonged drought conditions in a town subject to severe restrictions. The solution was to install an aerobic wastewater treatment system (AWTS) to capture, treat and reuse all household wastewater.

Joan and David selected an Ozzi Kleen RP10 sewage treatment plant after researching the market for suitable wastewater recycling systems.

After lengthy consultation with Malcolm Nancarrow, the local Ozzi Kleen Agent an application was made to the Mount Alexander Shire to install a sewage treatment plant in the backyard.

The Ozzi Kleen RP10 sewage treatment plant was installed successfully with the support and assistance of the Environmental Health Officer Ray Christy as well as Malcolm Nancarrow.

Four years later, Joan is still enjoying the benefits of her Ozzi Kleen RP10 wastewater recycling system with no cause for complaint. While ensuring reuse of all her household wastewater, the system has also helped her reduce potable water consumption in her home.

The beautifully established cottage garden was designed, constructed and maintained by Robyn Haylett, a horticulturalist and garden designer of repute who describes it as one of the better ones in the region.

The success of the garden is due to the availability of irrigation water on demand supplied through a relatively simple subsoil system. The bulk of the trees and shrubs are cold climate and temperate zone plants, which have flourished as a result of the secondary effluent supplied from the Ozzi Kleen non-septic sewerage system.

In fact Joan is so impressed with the concept of aerobic wastewater treatment systems and in particular with the Ozzi Kleen RP10, she believes that an AWTS should be a standard inclusion in every new home.
