Maxton Fox, together with Western Sydney University’s School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Emerging Designer Award.

The Brief

To develop a workstation design to suit flexible hybrid work environments, designing for the office, home, or other location in a post-COVID world.

The program offers an opportunity to students to integrate their learning with practical craftsmanship, where each student is required to submit their design along with a physical high-fidelity prototype.

The designs and models from the students were shortlisted to 10 workstations, which were then exhibited at a Critique Evening held in Sydney where architects, interior designers and the Maxton Fox design team got to learn about the designs and their designers, and vote on their favourite models.

The Critique Evening

Each prototype was paired with a QR code, which linked to a voting survey where each participant had the opportunity to vote and critique on each workstation presented.

Once the evening concluded we gathered all the data needed to select the finalists for this year's Emerging Designer Award.

Emerging Designers

Genevieve Bryant

Workstation: 'Grevillea'

Studying for a Bachelor of Industrial Design at Western Sydney University, Genevieve, a second-year student enjoys being involved in designs from the ground up. She was inspired to create an inclusive sit to stand workstation for those with impaired vision for the workplace or home office.

Heimy Molina

Workstation: 'Stipule'

A fourth year Bachelor of Engineering student whose proficiency in design semantics was showcased through her design 'The Stipule', Heimy was inspired by naturally occurring organic shapes mimicking nature, whilst also considering post pandemic workplace standards such as social distancing.

The two workstations are currently in design development. We cannot wait to showcase and launch them to market.

"This is a competition that could literally launch a career," Maxton Fox said.
