The Old Colonial Hotel in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne, announces the opening of a new Japanese restaurant and rooftop bar following extensive renovation. A standout feature at the Ichi Ni Nana Japanese restaurant is a new glass retractable roof designed and installed by Libart.

The owner sought to create a special vista when walking through the bar to the restaurant and looking back down from the upstairs bar. Libart Australia was engaged to design and implement a large motorised retractable glass roof operated with a remote control.

Spanning 7380mm with a width of 8510mm, Libart’s retractable glass roof delivers a very inviting light-filled space. Additionally, to meet town planning requirements for noise reduction, Libart selected acoustically engineered glass consisting of an insulated glass unit with a top section of 6mm grey tinted toughened glass, 12mm Argon gas layer and a 4mm+4mm laminated bottom section. In addition to excellent noise reduction, the glass also ensures insulation and protection against the extreme heat of the Melbourne summer.

Key features of Libart’s retractable roof also include a nano ‘self-cleaning’ coating on the glass for upkeep; and aluminium structure powder coated in deep black (RAL 9005). To satisfy the Building Code requirements, the structure and glass required engineering certification. An extra requirement was for the roof to satisfy the ‘100-year storm water test’.

Libart’s glass retractable roof allows flexible operation, and depending on the weather conditions, can be in the closed, partially opened or fully opened position providing a range of lighting effects.

Libart Australia specialises in retractable roof design, windows, doors and entire enclosures.
