Excavators from Kobelco Construction Machinery are being used by the Sydney-based specialist rail maintenance, civil, plant and labour business, Adept Civil to deliver a unique undercutting service to the rail industry together with other civil works.
Adept Civil provides specialist plant, labour and construction services to government and blue chip companies in the rail infrastructure and civil sector across Australia.
The company recently added three new Kobelco machines to its existing fleet of six 13.5 tonne SK135SR long track excavators to support business growth. The three new machines include a seventh SK135SR model long track excavator, an SK80MSR hydraulic excavator and an SK55SR mini hydraulic excavator.
The new excavators will be put to work on a continuing project for rail freight operator, QR National and Queensland Rail.
Henri Reiche, Company Director explains that Adept Civil has developed an off-track undercutting solution that can outperform any current mid-sized excavator mounted with under cutters. This solution is capable of doing all undercutting works including shoulder removal, tampering, sleeper removal, rail reconditioning and various rail works.
Their undercutter attachments are mounted on mid-sized Kobelco excavators, which when combined with other rail-specific plant machinery, allow them to repair small sections of track while keeping the line open to train traffic, preventing the downtime associated with normal rail maintenance procedures.
Henri adds that Kobelco excavators are ideal for the job right across the range, with their versatility allowing the equipment to be fitted with a wide variety of attachments to suit individual business needs, ranging from undercutters and sleeper grabs to buckets for clean-up work as well as jackhammers and rocksaws.
The new Kobelco excavators have all been modified to ensure safety when working in a rail environment. Modifications include the installation of limiters to prevent the boom hitting the overhead rail lines while also ensuring the boom swing is within safe working distance of passing trains.
