Kooltherm K17 insulated plasterboard by Kingspan Insulation was installed in a wall insulation application at the Moolap Aged Care Facility near Geelong, Victoria.

Located in Moolap, the stunning $20 million aged care facility was designed by renowned urban architects Jackson Teese, with no compromises made to build a facility with ultimate style and functionality, on time and on budget.

The Moolap Aged Care Facility has a 108-bed capacity and features an on-site hairdressing area, laundry areas, dining hall, kitchens, bathrooms, staff facilities, and more.

Kingspan’s on-site team explained the benefits of using Kooltherm K17 insulated plasterboard instead of the traditional clip and channel, or stud and track methods, with the contractor and architect agreeing that the ease and speed of the product's installation would provide huge labour savings to the project.

The project used about 550 square metres of Kingspan’s K17 insulated plasterboard with the benefits realised immediately during the installation, which was completed at three-and-a-half times the speed of the originally specified method. The lightweight nature of the boards made for an easy install.

According to contractor Caldow Plastering, using Kingspan’s product instead of the originally planned clip and channel, or stud and track method, meant the project tracked well ahead of schedule with a significant amount saved purely by reducing the time the trades were onsite.

Kingspan’s K17 insulated plasterboard is fixed directly to any masonry wall using an adhesive bonding method and mechanical fixing.

Being an aged care facility, there were a lot of services on the external walls that had to be accommodated. The contractor found it easy to chase the Kooltherm K17 insulated plasterboard walls to house these services.

Kingspan K17 insulated plasterboard provides continuous insulation, reducing the need for cooling and heating, and saving on energy costs. From a comfort perspective, the residents of the aged care facility will be able to enjoy stable temperatures through extreme weather changes, regardless of the time of the year.
