Croydon Herringbone, an engineered European Oak flooring product from Havwoods was specified for a family home in Mosman, NSW to meet the designer’s objectives for the renovation project.

Designed by Look Design Group, the renovation took the home from an overheated thermal disaster to optimal comfort all year round through a stunning transformation.

The designer took on the challenge to improve this home’s floor plan and navigate some tricky design obstacles to enable the owners to enjoy the spectacular Sydney Harbour Bridge views in perfect comfort and ambience.

With the home situated in a highly sought-after North Shore location with stunning views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the owners were seeking to improve thermal performance to enable better use of their home. An exposed western orientation led to penetrating heat and glare from midday onwards, preventing the owners from taking full advantage of the beautiful views for half a day, every day.

Searching for a solution, the owners approached Look Design Group to help them redesign and update their home to optimise on the views while simultaneously keeping the heat and glare out.

To ensure cohesiveness across the overall design, the external renovations were commissioned in conjunction with the interior redesign. Look Design Group worked with builders Reliant Constructions to strip back the home and change the floor plan to incorporate expansive covered balconies.

The interior design brief required high quality finishes and details that were also durable and easy to maintain to suit a high-traffic family home. The flooring selection was extremely important as it would be featured throughout much of the home. Look Design Group selected Havwoods HW3572 Croydon engineered wood flooring in herringbone pattern due to its richness in texture, colour and durability.

"It’s a very beautiful flooring product that also has a rustic element, which makes it highly durable, so it fitted both the design aesthetic and the high traffic associated with a family home. The new flooring gives a lot of warmth and character to the multitude of spaces it has been used in," Natalie Andersen from Look Design Group commented.
