The Smart Flow system from Enware Australia won top honours at the 64th Good Design Awards held in Sydney in September 2022.

Enware’s Smart Flow Water Risk Management System won in the Service Design – Commercial Services category in recognition of its outstanding design and innovation. This was Enware’s 8th consecutive win at the prestigious annual awards program.

Accepting the award on behalf of Enware Australia, Jason Hinds, Research and Development Manager said, “Enware has been fortunate to win many Good Design awards in the past for product design and design research; however, we are thrilled that, for the first time, Enware is now being recognised for the service we provide to our customers through the introduction of the cloud software platform, wireless sensor network, auditing and commissioning service, direct payment system and enhanced software reporting.”

The Good Design Awards Jury praised Enware’s Smart Flow Water Risk Management System, commenting: “It is encouraging to see such a holistic solution emerging from a regulatory requirement. Great use of wireless technology to overcome the challenges in deployment and integration with existing facilities. Consideration of data accessibility, quality and reporting were critical factors in recognition of service design in this entry.”

The Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions with close to 700 design projects evaluated in this year’s international design awards.

Enware’s Smart Flow Water Risk Management System provides healthcare organisations with the service of monitoring the operational health of their water system to ensure it complies with Health Policy directives and National enHealth guidelines. The service is designed to improve the patient experience while providing certainty and peace of mind to healthcare facility operators who are currently managing water safety risks without clear visibility of the system’s dynamics.

Hospital tap water is a primary source of preventable health acquired infections (HAIs); however, this invisible risk cannot be eliminated, only better managed. Legionella bacteria is naturally occurring in potable water and its survival is dependent on the operational management of the plumbing system.

There are over 200,000 cases of HAIs every year in Australia costing the health system billions of dollars to manage. Both scalding and legionella risks to patients cannot be eliminated, only mitigated through proactive management of the premise’s plumbing water system. Smart Flow Water Risk Management System provides hospitals with a trusted partner to share this critical responsibility, guiding performance management of the water system through greater visibility of the operational risks. On best practice manual management, Smart Flow Water Risk Management System reduces operational costs by 65%, reduces water and energy waste by approx. 30%, and ensures patient safety while in the care of the facility.

The system has been implemented throughout healthcare facilities across Australia. Enware continues to develop the system with enhanced data analytics and computer modelling to meet each client’s specific operational compliance needs.
