DECO Australia has been granted a Standard Patent by IP Australia for their timber look aluminium decking system, DecoDeck. Patents recognise and protect designs featuring a new and inventive step, which differs from existing technology.

Made from solid aluminium extrusion and finished with slip resistant Super-Durable sublimated polyurethane DecoWood powdercoat, the DecoDeck system is a unique offering in the Australian decking market. An inventive interconnecting board and connector design sets the decking system apart from other decking options on the market. In 2020, DecoDeck received a Good Design Award for its unique design.

This patent from IP Australia establishes that DecoDeck is not only one of a kind in the market, but also a unique invention created by DECO Australia. The patent grants protection against infringements or copying for the next 20 years in accordance with the Patents Act 1990.

“Receiving this patent is another great step in protecting Deco’s Intellectual Property, which comprises Patents and Trademarks,” DECO director Ross Doonan said.

“DECO takes a lot of care and time in creating product designs that service the needs of our customers, and we always strive to protect the creations of our talented team. We have quality products and inventive designs unlike anything else on the market today, and it is crucial to protect both our products and designs.”

The granting of DecoDeck’s Standard Patent comes after DECO was successful in an infringement case in the Federal Court of Australia surrounding DECO’s wall cladding patent.

The cladding design, which is protected by an Innovation Patent, had been copied by a competitor.

“It is more crucial than ever that we do our utmost to protect Australian manufacturing and Australian Intellectual Property,” said Doonan. “The importance of sovereign capability and Australian supply chains to the Australian economy cannot be understated.”

DECO Australia is an innovative leader when it comes to product design for Australia’s construction and manufacturing industries. This commitment to protecting their Intellectual Property highlights their dedication to protecting not only their own innovations but also the larger Australian design and manufacturing industry.
