Zaha Hadid Design combined the versatility of Corian with wood and traditional craftsmanship to create the Cove kitchen, which won the Elle Deco International Design Award 2018 in the kitchen category.

Designed in collaboration with kitchen and bath manufacturer Boffi, the Cove kitchen comprises of a sink, stovetop and drawers on a single island, all seamlessly incorporated into the white high performing Corian solid surface. Corian was used for the main structure, doors and countertop.

Boffi CEO Davide Cremese explained that the collaboration was a highly creative process with Boffi, as manufacturers, having to mix engineering evaluations, ideas, solutions, exploration, and materials testing to translate Zaha’s style and make sure that it was a reflection of both brand identities. The cohesion of the two teams allowed them to achieve something buildable that had quality, charm, and durability, he added.

The Cove kitchen brings the flow of geometric lines to every place and context. A cut-out on one side echoes the organic curvature of Zaha Hadid's unique architectural signature. The luxurious design and extraordinary detailing are complemented by functional considerations, carefully chosen materials such as the highly resistant Corian solid surface, and Boffi’s pristine craftsmanship.

According to Cremese, the curvature integrates two very different materials – Corian and wood veneer, which was a challenge, while the wooden structure that supports the mono-block working top is quite impressive.

Maha Kutay, director of Zaha Hadid Design says Cove combines ZHD’s design with exceptional functionality, embodying the unmistakable lines of Zaha Hadid’s architectural language.

Cove's geometry, which achieves perfect harmony, is attributed to the malleable Corian material, a combination of industrial knowledge and artisanal craftsmanship.

Corian Solid Surface is available from CASF Australia.
