Aodeli Australia supplied ‘Fire Safe’ aluminium facade panels for the recladding project at Brisbane Square in Brisbane, Queensland. The building is the largest project in Queensland to date to be re-clad as part of the nationwide recladding program, which aims to ensure the removal of non-compliant aluminium composite materials from all buildings around the country, and replace them with compliant non-combustible cladding.

Brisbane Square

An iconic skyscraper on the South Bank, Brisbane Square was originally designed by international architects Denton Corker Marshall in 2006. There are four distinctive rectangular, coloured spaces near the base of the building. Two of these contain the Brisbane Square Library and the Brisbane City Council. The building is also the largest commercial office building in Australia to be awarded a 5-star Green Star rating.

Aodeli was chosen to supply their popular solid aluminium panels (SAP) to replace the building’s existing exterior cladding.

In addition to being compliant for use under the National Construction Code, there were other factors that made Aodeli’s SAP product the preferred choice for this recladding project. Brisbane Square’s proximity to the river meant there was also a need for exterior cladding panels that could withstand the potential impact of this environment on the facade.

The specification, therefore, required marine grade 5052 aluminium alloy and for the panels to be coated in a 3-coat paint system. Unlike other products on the market, Aodeli offers both options as standard for their SAP solid aluminium cladding product.

“When we launched AODELI SAP solid aluminium panels, we chose to set ourselves apart from other cladding suppliers by offering high-quality aluminium products as standard. As part of this commitment, SAP was an obvious choice as it ticked all the boxes required for an iconic project such as Brisbane Square. The 3-coat paint system provides the ultimate protection for exterior cladding and therefore a longer warranty,” explains general manager, Wayne Saunders.

As well as SAP, Aodeli’s range of non-combustible cladding products includes NCP (non-combustible panel), a 4mm aluminium core panel that is certified under AS 1530.1 and suitable for external and internal applications where a non-combustible and fire-resistant solution is required. This product also comes with the 3-coat paint system as standard.
