The Adina Apartment Hotel in Brisbane, QLD is a luxury hotel that features modern comforts while preserving the elegance of the original heritage building.

Located on George Street, the 100-year-old heritage building, which previously housed the Queensland Government Savings Bank, was given a new lease of life with modern-day construction materials along with interior restoration and the addition of five new upper levels helping the transformation into a contemporary hotel.

An important aspect of the successful renovation of the heritage property is the way the additional levels have been given their own identity while referencing the heritage of the 1920s building below. The project, designed by TKD Architects, drew inspiration from the existing Art Deco period features, while taking the opportunity to add modern necessities such as larger windows and balconies to allow guests to maximise their enjoyment of the city and river views.

The former bank building is now home to a 220-room luxury hotel, complete with a swimming pool and gymnasium, along with an exclusive ground floor restaurant and basement bar.

In a modern interpretation of the existing curved edge of the building’s west-facing corner, the new upper levels feature a corner of faceted glazed aluminium window framing. Constructed with Hunter Evo 150mm single flush glazed framing from Alspec, the faceted section adds floor-to-ceiling windows to expand the outlook from the CBD location, adding to the building’s appeal. Also available in a 101.6mm depth, the Hunter Evo framing is ideal for this type of installation, providing a flush appearance along with robust framing and excellent weathering performance.

The balconies in the hotel rooms are accessed through Alspec’s ProGlide High Performance sliding doors that provide wide openings with minimal effort and form a secure barrier against the elements when closed.

For locations where new hinged or pivoted doors were needed, Swan Evo 45mm single glazed commercial doors were installed to provide a durable and stylish enclosure that will perform well in the busy hotel environment.

Alspec products used in the restoration and expansion project included Hunter Evo 101.6mm single flush glazed framing, Hunter Evo 150mm single flush glazed framing, McArthur Evo 101.6mm centre pocket framing, ProGlide High Performance sliding doors, and Swan Evo 45mm commercial shopfront doors. Applied finishes included Electro Black Ace, Duratec Monument Matt and Zeus White Gloss.
