Timber (re)discovered. A remarkable past, a new architectural future.

Hydrowood is redefining the possibilities of reclaimed timber, transforming rare and highly sought-after Tasmanian species into premium materials for contemporary architecture and design.

Deep beneath Tasmania’s Lake Pieman lies a remarkable resource: forests submerged during the development of hydroelectric infrastructure decades ago.

Using innovative underwater timber recovery technology, Hydrowood retrieves these long-submerged trees, carefully processing and milling them into exceptional architectural timber without harvesting a new standing forest for that supply.

The result is a collection of distinctive Tasmanian timbers, each with its own natural beauty, character and performance attributes. From the rich red tones of Myrtle and the warmth of Blackwood to the fine grain and durability of Celery Top Pine, the versatility of Hydrowood Oak and the rarity of Huon Pine and Sassafras, the range provides architects and designers with an extraordinary material palette.

Hydrowood offers a variety of architectural products, including solid timber flooring, interior wall and ceiling linings, external cladding, joinery timbers, furniture-grade materials and bespoke profiles. These materials bring warmth, texture and authenticity to residential, commercial and public environments, offering both aesthetic distinction and practical functionality.

Responsibly recovered and milled in Tasmania, Hydrowood combines traditional timber craftsmanship with an innovative approach to resource recovery. PEFC and Responsible Wood Chain of Custody certification further supports its commitment to responsible sourcing and traceability.

With national distribution, technical specification support and access to samples and product documentation, Hydrowood helps architects, builders and designers confidently integrate exceptional Tasmanian timber into projects of every scale.

More than simply reclaimed timber, Hydrowood represents a rare opportunity to create something new from something extraordinary — materials with authentic provenance, enduring value and a story that becomes part of the architecture itself.

The brand story, range and certification references are consistent with Hydrowood's current published information.
