Born from the pandemic, The Seat House is the embodiment of the collective escape many metropolitan homeowners made to the coast in a bid to balance out the weights of work and life.
Designed by Atlas Architects, the clientele originally flocked to an existing dwelling in Tuerong, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. As the couple and their family continued to utilise the space more frequently, they decided to create a dwelling suitable for their trips away, as well as their son’s impending wedding.
Doubling as a wedding reception and an abode, Atlas were made to ensure The Seat House would interact flawlessly with its landscape. Charcoal brickwork, roofing and steel beams contrast the verdant green shades of the hillside and plantations without upsetting the visual in any form.
The interior follows the lead of the facade, with charcoal joinery and cabinetry. Timber-clad ceilings make for intriguing visuals elevated by light bouncing across the walls at varying times of the day. A bar akin to many metropolitan watering holes provides a luxurious space to entertain guests.
