Stone is one of architecture’s oldest and most enduring building materials, valued for its strength, permanence and distinctive natural character. For more than 25 years, Eco Outdoor has worked to preserve and celebrate these qualities, and its new Stone Bricks collection continues this approach. The range brings solid limestone into a refined, elongated construction format that makes building with stone feel both familiar and entirely contemporary.

“Stone has been used as a construction material for centuries,” says Ben Kerr, founder and CEO of Eco Outdoor. “The opportunity was to bring it into a brick format that architects understand and builders know how to work with, without losing the variation, texture and depth that make natural stone so distinctive.”

The brick format was developed to make greater use of the raw stone block, including material with natural variations in colour, grain, fossilisation and veining that may otherwise be overlooked in favour of a purer, more uniform appearance. In a brick format, these variations become part of the material’s appeal rather than a flaw.

Unlike fired clay bricks, Stone Bricks do not require high-temperature kiln firing. A lighter touch production process preserves the character of the raw stone, while the material’s durability, long service life and potential for future reuse support Eco Outdoor’s long-life approach to material selection. The walling range is also backed by a 100-year warranty.

The collection

These qualities are expressed across a considered palette of natural tones and finishes. Eco Outdoor Full Stone Bricks are solid, weight-bearing construction units measuring 350mm long x 50mm high x 90mm thick. The collection spans warm white, cream, beige and grey-blue tones.

Portico: cream to white limestone with subtle fossilisation, gentle speckling and faint irregular veining, finished with delicate saw marks.

Forum: bright cream to warm white limestone with a softly tumbled finish that enhances faint natural veining and softens the stone’s fossilisation.

Delfi: warm beige limestone with light tonal variation, darker beige grain and a crisp sawn finish with delicate cut lines.

Arles: warm beige limestone with darker beige markings and a softly tumbled finish that creates a speckled appearance while softening the stone’s fossilisation.

Sintra: cool grey-blue limestone with underlying cloudiness, mild tonal variations and a sawn finish with delicate cut lines.

In use

Eco Outdoor Stone Bricks are already being used across residential and multi-residential projects. At Hermitage House in Victoria, JAK Architecture used pale Meda limestone Face Bricks across the exterior and an internal feature wall, bringing texture and continuity to the retained 1960s home. At Exhibit on Jervois in Auckland, Monk Mackenzie incorporated Daly Stone Face Bricks into precast façade panels, creating a finely textured and carved expression suited to the practical demands of multi-residential construction.
