As technology, process, materials, codes and requirement change rapidly these days, the design of new products needs to adapt to this new reality. The creativity of architects, when designing custom or bespoke products, relies on the ability of the artisan or manufacturer to translate these ideas into a practical and efficient reality. Much work and expertise behind the scenes occurs and flexibility and adaptability is a necessity. In this session we will explore how design works hand in glove with process and manufacture to achieve the optimum outcome whether that is a single residence or a large commercial building

Anita Panov. Director, panovscott
Anita Panov established emerging architecture practice panovscott with partner Andrew Scott in 2012, following a decade each of apprenticeship with respected Sydney practices. Their work has been recognised locally and internationally, and includes public and private buildings, exhibitions, strategic planning, and teaching/research based speculations. The practice has been described to reveal ‘a passionate and poetic commitment to architectural life: in practice, theory and education’.
The work of panovscott demonstrates an aspiration to make joyful spaces and a meaningful contribution to the built environment. Their growing portfolio has extended from residential transformations to projects which take place in the public domain and strategic realm, which is seen as further recognition that the design thinking required of small projects is transferable from the private to the public domain. We are, after all, making spaces for people.
James Perry. Principal, fjmt
James is a Principal of the studio and has experience across Australia and South East Asia within a variety of industry sectors.
Having graduated from Cape Town University and Sydney University, both with First Class Honours, James has worked across a wide variety of industry sectors and has a particular expertise and interest in the design of public and educational buildings and has also led a number of complex single and multi-residential projects from conception to completion.
James has most recently completed the UTS Central Project with a number of other significant projects currently under construction.
James also leads the studio’s Landscape group and the Design Research and Development group which is dedicated to the investigation and performance of current emergent technologies within the industry and application to each specific and relevant project.
Tim Phillips. Managing Director, TILT
Tim Phillips is a highly regarded Industrial Designer specialising in design consulting for Architects, Creatives and the Construction Industry. He has extensive experience in architectural projects, with a passion for using the latest technologies, materials and manufacturing techniques to bring the creative ideas of his clients to life. Tim manages a dedicated team of industrial designers and engineers, pushing the boundaries to achieve truly unique design solutions. Motivated by architectural challenges, the Tilt team enjoy the opportunity to thoughtfully consider the design intent and then deliver it through a proven design process. Tim is also an educator and academic, with an ongoing association as alumni of the University of Newcastle, the University of Technology and University of NSW.
Luigi Rosselli. Principal, Luigi Rosselli Architects
Luigi Rosselli is a Milan-born architect who came to Australia in the 1980s. Before his arrival in Australia, Rosselli studied architecture at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland, where he was tutored by Alvaro Siza and Umberto Riva. Following the first part of his studies he was offered a position in the studio of Mario Botta, but it was his role on the competition team to design a new Australian Parliament House, under the guidance of Romaldo Giurgola at Mitchell Giurgola and Thorp in New York that ultimately brought him to Canberra and then Sydney.
Over more than three decades of practice, Luigi has developed a reputation for innovative and inspirational architecture with a humanist focus across a wide variety of projects: from small suburban alterations and additions projects to remote multi-unit accommodation designed to withstand harsh outback conditions.
