James Jones has joined Architectus from HBV Architects (Hobart).

Jones was previously director at HBV Architects where he was involved with design of the new RACT state offices and significant logistics and training buildings for energy providers Aurora and Transend.

He also previously worked at Architectus Sydney from 2001 to 2002, during which time he was co-design principal for the international competition winning design for the new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and principal on the winning entry for the unrealised Centenary of Federation Place, Canberra.

Prior to joining HBV, Jones was at Morris-Nunn Associates (Hobart) where he was involved in the IXL redevelopment, the Henry Jones art hotel, Islington hotel and the Priory Country Lodge.

During the period 2007 to 2008 he was president of the Australian Institute of Architects Tasmanian Chapter and member of the Hobart Lord Mayors Economic Development Forum. He is currently adjunct professor at the School of Architecture, University of Tasmania.

Jones has won Australian Institute of Architects awards for the Esmond Dorney state award for residential architecture (2010) for Trial Bay House, state Colorbond award for steel architecture and state commercial award (2010) for Transend Primary Store, and a national and state Colorbond award for steel architecture and a commercial award (2008) for Aurora Operations Centre (HBV Architects).
