Related is hoping to do for an Abu Dhabi neighborhood what it did for New York’s Columbus Circle — that is, turn it into a luxury shopping and dining destination. The development company is planning two massive projects, Sowwah Central and The Galleria at Sowwah Square and has revealed that it has already secured 48 luxury tenants for the 15.8 million-square-foot mixed-use centre.

Opened to the public in September 2012, the Museo Del Mundo Maya in Yucatan, Mexico has been recognised by the Premio Iberoamericano CIDI in the Culture category. The significant cultural project was commended for its ‘valuable urban design, which symbolises the nature of Mayan Culture in its immediate surroundings and the city of Merida.’

Ada Louise Huxtable, who died on January 7, derided the Edward Durell Stone-designed John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as “a great marble sarcophagus in which the art of architecture lies buried.” Now the Center has approved a plan by Steven Holl to bring the art of architecture back to life with the addition of three pavilions and a new park.

Glasgow, Scotland

John McAslan + Partners has unveiled new plans for Glasgow’s George Square, featuring more greenery in a bid to win over the city. The practice was announced winner of the contest last week before the project was abandoned by Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson due to public disapproval.
