Q Dermatology is a new dermatological practice located within a new hospital in Taringa, Queensland. Unlike the typical clinical look of doctors’ suites, Q Dermatology redefines healthcare aesthetics with a light, bright and energising atmosphere that ticks all the boxes for form and function, and offers a friendly and pleasant experience to both patients and staff alike.

The brief for Outline Design Office sought to communicate the Q Dermatology brand message of ‘specialist treatment, expert care’ and create a space that was wholly focused on restfulness and the wellbeing of the patient with all the latest technology incorporated. The contemporary interiors met all the important design objectives such as creating a welcoming and a modern environment that would provide comfort to all patients.

Though the practice is new, the medical team share a wealth of experience – the strength of this expertise needed to be conveyed through the interiors to create trust within the patients. The colour palette of soft greys and white, along with the durable and long-lasting materiality has helped achieve these design goals. The creatively designed cabinetry and reception desk speak more of a residential interior than a commercial space, adding to the overall feeling of a casual and comfortable but also efficient working environment.

The design allows for an abundance of natural light in the interior spaces with the rooms positioned in areas that provide expansive views of the outside. The spatial layout of the interior ensures patients have a sense of privacy with visual cues helping them interact with the space.

Patients can relax on the soft comfortable seating in the generously sized waiting area, which features a lot of greenery to enhance the feeling of wellbeing and tranquillity. A water station with a Zip HydroTap Arc in gunmetal has been provided in the waiting area as extra amenity for patients who can have a chilled glass of filtered water on a warm summer’s day or a hot cup of tea with the instant boiling water when the weather is cold. The clinic also features a HydroTap Classic BC in Matte Black.

Outline Design Office director Jacinta Condon commented, “The focus is on patient comfort – for them to walk in and have access to that natural light in the waiting area, it was all about trying to make people feel at ease but obviously that had to be balanced as it’s still a medical grade facility. The biggest challenge was to make the suite feel comfortable and hygienic without feeling cold and sterile.”
