ZC Technical supplied their flat lock panels with recess for the exterior of the Cleveland Residence located right on the ocean foreshore.
Completed in 2016, the residence was designed by Sprout Architects and built by Healy Homes. ZC Technical became involved in discussions with Sprout Architects, Healy Homes and the client at a very early design stage during which the company’s entire range of panel systems, materials and colours was considered for the home’s exterior.
Given that the residence was situated right on the ocean foreshore, with high tide reaching its lower steps, any material specified for the exterior needed to be able to resist the saline environment.
A flat lock panel system with recess from ZC Technical was chosen for its neutral simplicity and the sharp, neat look it would give the residence’s exterior.
The client sought the appearance of an ever-continuing form so the ability to fold external corners into the flat lock panels using flashings was another reason for the decision. Since a large part of the application involved soffits or wall cladding below soffits, aluminium was the material of choice to avoid salt deposits and pitting in the ocean environment.
Zinc grey textured aluminium was selected for the application, partly because of its natural textured appearance and also for its earthy and timeless tones. About 500 square metres of material were used for the installation.
