Viridian’s glass for bushfire compliant window systems

    Viridian

The recent bushfire devastation in New South Wales has once again brought the issue of building in bushfire zones back into focus.

With many people now left with the task of re-building their properties, it is imperative that anyone building or re-building in bushfire prone areas uses the correct materials that meet the strict Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) standards.

Leading Australian glass manufacturer Viridian New World Glass is also helping protect properties against bushfire damage by supplying glass for bushfire compliant window systems ranging from BAL 12.5 through to BAL 40.

Viridian’s specially engineered PyroGuard 40 is a high performance, bushfire-resistant double glazed unit, designed to meet the standards demanded in high risk, bushfire prone areas.

When Viridian PyroGuard 40 is used in a tested window system that has passed the requirements of AS1530.8.1-2007, it is suitable to be used in buildings in bushfire attack levels up to and including BAL 40.

Viridian's Marketing Communications Manager, Cameron Hook explains Viridian PyroGuard 40 is a specially processed insulated glass unit featuring an ultra-thin coated glass that reduces the transfer of heat through the glass unit to the inside of a building.

Viridian’s PyroGuard 40 is a double glazed window system that also provides significantly better insulation performance than standard single paned glass, further improving the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of a home. In addition to improving energy efficiency, Viridian’s PyroGuard 40 also eliminates the need for homeowners to use unattractive bushfire resistant shutters or metal screens to protect their homes.

Cameron advises that planning is key to protecting the home against bushfire risk. Using building materials that meet the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) standards is essential, but it is also important to seek expert advice from the local bushfire authority or local council to put a suitable bushfire plan in place.

Viridian PyroGuard 40 is a proprietary bushfire resistant glazing system only available through authorised Viridian processing facilities and selected window fabricators.
