Grant Thornton, based in Brisbane, wanted a work environment that reflected their culture and reinforced their philosophy that their employees are as important as their clients. In addition the physical environment needed to convey the transparency, approachability and collaborative nature of the organisation.
USG Boral Specialty Ceiling Systems with Pixels™ and Compasso™ Elite
“Grant Thornton wanted to pay homage to the origins of the company and the local environment of the office, hence the use of the map of Brisbane. The Brisbane River is a well-known symbol of the city, and the aerial view of the squiggly line it weaves through the CBD is quite iconic. We looked at sections of the river and the city grid – this was used to create a subtle topographical reference to the city” Bridget Chapple – Designer - Geyer Pty Ltd
In the early stages of the design process USG provided information on the product and the possibilities. USG refined ideas, exploring how images of the river could be incorporated into ceiling panels.
Once a clear picture was produced of what could be achieved with Pixels™ and Compasso™ Elite, the focus then turned to the complexities of what part of the image would be solid and which would be backlit. USG pixelated the image and converted it into individual ceiling tiles.
“We were very pleased with the result, Pixels and Compasso Elite created a sophisticated and dynamic entrance to Grand Thornton’s lobby. I have not seen this level of finish, innovation and superior quality in a product on the market. It provides a specialised look. I would definitely recommend USG’s Speciality Ceiling systems” Bridget Chapple
