Atlanta Building Pty Ltd was contracted to build two large timber framed
houses as part of the Captain’s House project in Byron Bay, NSW.
While UBIQ products were selected for the internal walls of one house,
the other house used a typical fibre cement weatherboard and plasterboard. UBIQ
products used in the house included INEX>WEATHERBOARD and INEX>WALLBOARD.
Cameron Paton, owner of Atlanta Building very soon found out that his carpentry
team on the UBIQ house was using a superior product. Enumerating the benefits,
he said that UBIQ’s weatherboard was clearly easier to use and fix, and
delivered a superior finished quality. Though the cost of the two different
types of weatherboards is quite comparable, the UBIQ house now benefits from a
Bushfire and 1-hour fire rated wall construction.
Comparing the internal linings, Cameron observed that UBIQ’s
INEX>WALLBOARD was a better product than plasterboard with its hard surface similar
to a white set plaster finish. The wallboards even provided acoustic benefits
to the rooms. The UBIQ house additionally had fewer defects to be fixed before
handover.
Halfway through the project, Cameron even used spare UBIQ materials on
the other house.
Even after two years of multiple holiday rentals, The Captain’s House shows
no signs of wear and tear. The owners of the property agree that UBIQ was the
right choice as it gave them a virtually maintenance-free house.
