Eight tenancies in the Heritage Zone of the new Terminal 4 (T4) at Singapore’s Changi Airport were recently custom-fitted with security grilles from The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC).

ATDC worked closely with procurement specialist JEB Asia in the high profile project, supplying the security grilles to the tenancies at T4’s Heritage Zone, which showcases Singapore’s local culture and flavour to international passengers. Located in the transit area, the Heritage Zone traces the evolution of shop house architecture from the 1880s to the 1950s, examples of which can still be seen in Singapore’s Katong and Chinatown areas.

The brief for ATDC required the security grilles to complement the traditional façade of the pre-war shop houses built before the Second World War. The security grilles also had to occupy minimal storage space when unlocked and opened. Additionally, the locking mechanisms on the security grilles had to be key-able to the specific master keying system at Changi Airport.

ATDC’s S07-2 side-by-side retractable security grilles, among the most space efficient commercial door systems currently available on the world market, were specified for the installation at Changi Airport. By installing the top tracks of the security grilles in a parallel tandem top track configuration, ATDC was able to offer a lock up solution that occupied a mere 8% of the daylight opening spans of these tenancies. Seamless up/down locking mechanisms were also used to provide a lock up solution over considerably wider spans without the need for any cumbersome removable mullions or floor tracking to contain these doors.

To blend in with the general finishes of the Heritage Zone, the grilles featured a special precious silver pearl powder-coated finish. Standard ATDC stock finishes include pearl white or satin black although any Dulux powder-coat finish can be provided to match individual colour schemes.

All the security grilles were custom-designed and fabricated to specific sizes from dimensions detailed on architectural and engineering drawings, and then fixed to structural support frames designed by JEB Asia in conjunction with ATDC. The installation was successfully completed to the satisfaction of the Changi Airport management.

ATDC sells their security grilles in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra as well as in all regional areas across Australia including Townsville, Darwin, Hobart, Newcastle and Geelong. ATDC also has a thriving export business with their security grilles now being sold throughout South East Asia and the Asia Pacific region (including Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia) ,as well as the UAE, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

ATDC offers a comprehensive range of quality commercial and industrial security grilles, folding doors, lockable plantation shutters and roller shutters.
