Spantech was honoured with a Very Highly Commended Certificate for their work at the Waiouru Army Camp, New Zealand. Spantech constructed five 23-metre explosives storehouses at the defence site.

Coordinated by the Defence Industry Advisory Council, the Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry are given every year. Eleven nominations were received for the 2006 Awards.

Spantech was nominated in Category B for the supply of equipment or services below $7 million, which recognises companies providing excellent service in a variety of ways.

The awards dinner was held in Wellington at Te Papa with Mr Chris Seed, Acting Secretary of Defence presenting the awards on behalf of the Hon. Phil Goff, Minister of Defence.

Major General (RDT) Louis J (Lou) Gardiner, ONZM, Chief of Army at the time, said that Spantech worked exceptionally well with the Army and a large group of subcontractors who completed most of the site construction work under Spantech’s direction.
