Sydney-based manufacturer of interior fit-out solutions, SAS International has supplied metal pan ceiling solutions for installation in the first phase of Global Switch’s new Australian data centre facility.

Known as the Sydney East Data Centre, the highly specialised facility required a ceiling solution that was easy to clean, contributing to a dust-free environment to protect computer hardware. Incorporating a world-class data centre design and leading environmental innovations, Sydney East is targeting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Rating.

SAS International supplied 3,500m² of System 330 plain tiles installed in a framing system in a 1200mm x 1200mm module configuration. An aperture tile was also supplied to support return air grilles in the ceiling required for ensuring temperature control in the facility. Metal pan ceiling tiles can be supplied pre-formed, with apertures for lighting and other building services produced in factory-controlled conditions. Installation and build time is considerably reduced with the offsite prefabrication option, which also additionally lowers waste and contributes to a cleaner site.

SAS International is the first metal ceiling manufacturer to have its products accredited to Green Tag in addition to offering independently verified Environmental Product Declarations on all of its suspended ceiling systems. These accreditations mean SAS International’s metal ceilings can contribute to credits for environmental rating systems such as LEED and Green Star.

Key advantages of SAS International’s metal pan ceiling solutions also include high durability, easy cleaning, long term value with a minimum 25-year product lifecycle, and 100% recyclability into new steel after paint removal.

Cockram Construction and M+W Group were contracted for Phase one of the new Sydney East data centre with scope of work involving construction, fit-out, testing and commissioning of the new facility.
