Louvre windows from Safetyline Jalousie are designed to meet new Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirements for windows above a certain height.

The new BCA regulations address concerns about the potential risk of falls from windows to children living in apartments. With one in ten children living in apartments in Sydney, and 44% of those children aged under five, falls from windows are a serious concern, but also highly preventable.

Following the 2009 formation of a working party at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to address the issue, this year’s Building Code of Australia (BCA) will include specific requirements for windows above a certain height.

Effective from May 2013, the National Construction Code (NCC) requires window barriers for opening windows in early childhood centres and bedrooms in residential buildings (including houses, apartments and hotels) where the floor beneath the window is more than two metres above the surface beneath.

The changes will apply to new buildings and require the window to be fitted with a screen or device to restrict the window opening so that a 125mm sphere cannot pass through. The device or screen can have a child-proof lock to enable its removal for maintenance or cleaning.

According to the Australian Window Association, the majority of windows currently on the market do not meet these new standards and will require some sort of modification or additional device to meet the new requirements.

However, Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows are already in compliance with these changes without requiring any modification or additional hardware. Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows offer a stylish, functional window option that also provides unparalleled safety and security.

Key features of Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows:
