Material selection was an important part of the design process for the architect and builder of the new clubhouse at the Eastern Valley Golf Course, located in Yering in Victoria’s picturesque Yarra Valley. Aiming to engage with the natural world with a harmonious choice of building materials and subdued colour selection, the builder, Buxton Constructions selected Krause 50mm Jarrah bricks for the new clubhouse in 2015.

Featuring a stately country home design, the clubhouse captures magnificent views across the golf course, sitting unobtrusively in the beautiful Yarra Valley setting. The architects, Perrot Lyon Mathieson, sought to select materials that accurately reflected the club’s informal, relaxed and inviting personality. Though they had specified a particular brick, Paul Bianchi of Buxton Constructions changed the specification to Krause bricks, once he saw the colour and price. Another deciding factor was that these bricks were made by Krause Bricks, a local family business that’s been making traditional, boutique bricks for over 70 years.

The choice of Krause’s Jarrah bricks has resulted in a spectacular design outcome for the clubhouse, not only perfectly suiting the building’s personality and character, but also reflecting Eastern Valley Golf Club’s rich heritage.

Even two years after completion, the clubhouse looks as elegant and inviting, sitting harmoniously in the immediate and surrounding landscape.
