Many Little, Polperro’s latest venture in Red Hill, is an all-day bistro, late night bar, cellar door and meeting place catering for locals and visitors alike. The interiors have been designed thoughtfully by Hecker Guthrie to include a number of intimate spaces for guests. While the eatery seats 91 people, the inviting beer garden in the courtyard can accommodate 99 patrons.
Owners Sam Coverdale and Emma Phillips have a passion for the land and the nourishment it provides, which is reflected in Hecker Guthrie’s interior design for this new eating space that provides an experience connecting guests to its source.
The materials palette chosen for the interiors draws inspiration from the bistro’s breath-taking, rural setting on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Nestled within the Polperro Winery, the venue’s spectacular views overlooking the vineyards beautifully frame the internal palette of textured brick tiles, terrazzo and rich timber elements.
“Objects and furniture were placed within the restaurant to create a varying landscape of enclosures, incorporating a sense of the artisan or craft in the detailing of each element – a handmade quality. These are the elements in each project that we gain the most satisfaction from,” says Hecker Guthrie.
Ash Grey brick tiles from Robertson's Building Products Pty Ltd, for instance, have been used seamlessly across the walls and floors throughout the space, and are ideally suited to the 1970s era of the building. “The brick tiles added texture, warmth and versatility in a contemporary way, which paid homage to the bones of the original architecture, and incorporated a level of artisan in the detailing,” explains Guthrie.
Many Little provides a memorable experience where visitors can equally enjoy great quality local food and wine, as well as a stunning and relaxing space to enjoy it in, both inside and out, regardless of the time of the year.
