400-plus RMAX GeoFoam EPS blocks used in Victorian Peninsula Link Project

    RMAX EPS Building Products

GeoFoam, a high performance expanded polystyrene (EPS) fill material from RMAX EPS Building Products was extensively used in the recently completed Peninsula Link project in Melbourne. RMAX GeoFoam was used as embankment fill material as well as in bridge abutments during the construction process.

The $759 million Peninsula Link project is a 27-kilometre road that connects Carrum Downs and Mount Martha. On completion, the new freeway will ease traffic congestion on surrounding roads such as the Frankston Freeway and Moorooduc Highway, saving motorists up to 40 minutes of travel time in peak periods with a full trip between Mt Martha and Carrum Downs taking just 17 minutes. Motorists will be able to travel from Melbourne's CBD to Rosebud without experiencing a traffic light.

Australia’s largest EPS manufacturer, RMAX was chosen to supply GeoFoam EPS fill material for their ability to meet key construction requirements including quality standards, volume and timeline.

The Peninsula Link project used over 400 RMAX GeoFoam blocks, each measuring 5.00 x 1.20 x 0.600 metres, equivalent to 1,700 cubic metres of foam. More than 35 bridges and 18,000 square metres of retaining walls were built as part of the project with RMAX GeoFoam also used in reinforced embankments and reinforced soil walls. These constructions are required to last 100 years.

RMAX GeoFoam is a high performance expanded polystyrene fill material specifically designed for civil engineering and commercial building construction. Key features and advantages include remarkable strength-to-weight ratio making it ideal for absorbing heavy structural and mechanical loads; ability to reduce underlying soil stresses, helping with stabilising roads and steep embankments; 16-32 kilograms per cubic metre weight (depending on the grade) eliminating the need for large earthmoving equipment for construction; and blocks pre-cut at RMAX factories to suit customer requirements, can be trimmed to size at the site and manually placed.

In areas where access is limited, RMAX GeoFoam can be constructed vertically and faced, unlike most other lightweight fill alternatives. It can also be constructed in adverse weather conditions.

Made for Australian conditions, RMAX GeoFoam is designed and manufactured in Australia, providing easy access to the product. With offices across Australia, quick and reliable delivery is also assured.
