Tom Dumoulin of Team Sunweb won the 100th Giro d’Italia, bringing Netherlands the honour of having a winner in one of the major races. In an exciting final battle, which came down to the wire, the winner was decided in the concluding time trial in Monza on Sunday, 28 May with Dumoulin pulling away with a 31-second lead to win the title. Dumoulin is also the first Dutch person to ever win the Giro d’Italia.
