Customised portable partitions from Portable Partitions Australia (PPA) were supplied to Sydney Airport to retrofit a baggage screening area.

Airports of all sizes require passengers to undergo security screening and have their luggage and hand baggage X-rayed. Given the increasingly stringent security environment, airports worldwide are facing a constant challenge to balance the need for security screening with fast and efficient handling of baggage.

Security screening of baggage is typically carried out in a number of separate screening locations throughout an airport. Since most airports were built before the heightened security atmosphere, managements have had to create baggage screening areas by modifying already constrained spaces.

Australia’s busiest airport, Sydney Airport recently approached Portable Partitions Australia (PPA) for a solution to retrofit a baggage screening area using customised portable partitions. The flexible and movable screens needed to be high enough to provide privacy, but also low enough to allow security staff to look over and maintain security sightlines.

PPA customised the height of its Afford-A-Wall folding mobile room dividers (fabric) for the Sydney Airport application. These flexible portable screens allow infinite configurations including zig-zag, L-shape, curved, and straight line, enabling airport personnel to create a separate small area for baggage screening while assisting with the smooth flow of baggage and people traffic.
