Portable Partitions Australia (PPA) has assisted a school in South
Australia to create dual-purpose administrative and teaching areas within a classroom.
Space is a premium within many schools across Australia, necessitating
utilisation of classrooms for both teaching and administrative purposes.
Schools need private spaces to conduct one-on-one student sessions as well as in-classroom
office space for admin duties. Permanent building works are often not
considered as a solution because of the challenges involved as well as the
Classrooms need to be adaptable and flexible for schools to maximise
space utilisation and effectively manage ongoing challenges. Budgets also play
a major role when choosing potential solutions.
Portable Partitions Australia (PPA), the market-leading supplier of
portable room dividers and mobile partitions was recently approached by Grant High
School in South Australia to help create a dual purpose teaching and
administration space within a large classroom. The client sought to ensure
separate and defined areas could be easily created, with the option to quickly
open the room back out to its full capacity as and when required.
PPA’s 360 acoustic portable room dividers provided a simple and highly
cost-effective solution to the school. Made from an acoustic honeycomb board
with a fabric finish for noise dampening, the room divider is ideal for
splitting classrooms to conduct multiple functions. The lightweight
construction of the room divider allows it to be easily folded, moved and stored
when not in use.
Additionally, the room divider also allows artwork and displays to be easily
pinned and tacked to the partition panels to help blend the room divider into
its surroundings and also create mobile information boards or even a gallery.
According to Chris Height, Manager of the Flexible Learning Centre at
Grant High School, two mobile room dividers were purchased from PPA with one divider
in continuous use by the school’s Youth Worker to create a confidential and
private area for working with students. The second room divider is used in
the administration area to conduct meetings with students and parents.
Mr Height observes that the divider provides the feeling of privacy when
conducting these meetings since he shares the room with office staff. Both room
dividers allow non-permanent walls to be quickly set up within the large space,
eliminating any additional expense on more permanent solutions, which wouldn’t
have allowed flexibility or adaptability in the future to meet changing needs.
