PGH Bricks & Pavers supplied Cultured Stone to create an impressive facade for a luxury home in the high-end Adelaide suburb of Glenelg South.

Designed by the renowned Clint Girardi of Girardi Design and built by boutique builder Camporeale Klemm Built (CK Built), the stunning 400-square-metre home is located just a short walk to the popular Jetty Road and down the road from the beach. The home beautifully integrates contemporary and classic design.

To meet the brief, designer Carmel Siciliano used a combination of modern, natural materials for the facade along with glass to let the light into the interior. Cultured Stone, a trending stone veneer product, was applied to the main blade of the building and extended into the interior entrance foyer, bringing texture and character to the space.

Carmel explained that Cultured Stone had the classic stone look they sought for the project’s exterior and perfectly complemented the white render and timber. It was used alongside the concrete-look flooring in the interior, bringing an element of the outdoors into the home.

According to Carmel, stone veneers are a hot trend in hardscape design because they replicate the look of real stone for a fraction of the cost. Featuring a thinner profile, they are much lighter than natural stone, which reduces the cost of transport and the need for special footings and support during installation.

Observing that veneers were a beautiful and versatile choice for residential and commercial construction and finishing, she said Cultured Stone, which was used in this application, offered a cost-effective option for creating a modern, coastal-inspired stone look that will never go out of style.

She adds that the aesthetic of stone veneers is also improving with advancements in manufacturing. Hand colouring and casting from moulds of real stones deliver a natural looking finish that mimics real stone.

Carmel said that the clients had considered using real sandstone for the facade; however, the maintenance and general upkeep would have proved too taxing for the couple, who worked full time and had young children. Cultured Stone has helped them achieve the look they wanted, without the hassle of ongoing maintenance.

A strong advocate for stone cladding, Carmel has applied it extensively to add a timeless and elegant finish to her projects. The highly versatile material can be used in a range of applications from fireplaces to dividing walls and feature walls. She has used it in almost every space imaginable including kitchens, bathrooms, dining areas, cellars, hallways and even garages.

Carmel also appreciated the responsive service delivered by PGH Bricks & Pavers during the project.
