Prodema natural timber veneer panels were selected for the new escalators installed as part of the Wynyard Station upgrade in Sydney CBD.

The 2016 Wynyard Station upgrade was designed by Cox Architecture to provide a more modern station experience, with the space celebrating the history of the site, and revealing or matching the station’s original soffit and column structure, balustrades, handrails, and plasterwork.

The York Street escalators were a major focus point during the upgrade with the existing escalators, which had been in continuous use for 60 years replaced with new systems.

Prodema natural timber veneer panels were specified for the escalators based on their high scratch and impact resistance as well as maintenance-free properties. The cladding also delivers a depth and warmth that can only be achieved with natural wood.

Additionally, parts of the original escalators were repurposed into a ceiling-mounted artwork titled 'Interloop'. It's an impressive feature that works well with the woodgrains and tones of Prodema.
