Miele Australia managing director Peter Murphy has announced his retirement, effective 31 January 2006.

Since joining the company as managing director in 1989, Murphy has overseen sales growth from $27 million in 1988, compared with an anticipated $160 million this calendar year.

Murphy also conceived and developed the Miele Chartered Agency (MCA) system which was introduced in 1993, which Miele claims has served as an industry benchmark while envied and replicated by competing manufacturers in ensuing years.

Michael Jeanes, presently chief executive of Miele Great Britain, will succeed Peter Murphy as managing director of Miele Australia.
