A new funding program from the Queensland Government aims to encourage greater physical and sporting activities among Queenslanders.

The new 'Get Playing Plus' funding program initiated by the Queensland Government’s Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing will assist councils and community not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations to identify, develop and deliver infrastructure projects to enable more Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreational activity.

MakMax Australia suggests the installation of fabric roofing systems and umbrellas to offer shade solutions at a variety of sporting venues. Such an investment is likely to lead to increased sports participation, greater community involvement, more spectators and a boost to sporting club memberships and loyalty.

The department will provide grants ranging from a minimum of $400,000 up to a maximum of $1,500,000 for approved projects.

Submission of proposals to the department for Stage 1 of the project will close on 20 October 2014. Proposals must be submitted directly to the local Sports and Recreation Services office.
